Day 6: Get Filled
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns and songs from the spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:18-20 NIV
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26
As a new believer, the Holy Spirit is your new best friend! He is the One who is the very presence of God living inside of us, empowering us to live this new life that we have started with Jesus. He whispers in our ear giving us good advice when we need it. He nudges us to show us what He wants us to do next. He reassures us of His love. We can do nothing that will really last without His power and help.
The best way to keep “filled up” is to ask for it. Each day ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, and then cooperate with Him by listening to Him and obeying what He tells you. He is our power source for living a supernatural life!
One day I was asked to talk with a young mother whose husband was about to die. She was frantic with worry and stress. I had nothing to give her. I silently called out to the Holy Spirit to give me wisdom.
I grabbed her hand and prayed this simple prayer:
“God, I ask you to bring your peace.”
Within seconds, the peace of God settled over this dear young woman. Her shaking stopped, and she relaxed in my arms as I held her in her grief. That prayer had become the avenue for her to experience God’s love and peace. What a privilege we have to bring the power of the Holy Spirit’s healing and grace into people’s lives.

Reflect
Take some time to reflect on these questions:
Ephesians 5:19-20 helps us understand that we keep the Spirit’s presence alive in our lives through thanksgiving and praise throughout the day. How can I remind myself to express my praise and thanks to God each day?
This week, each morning when you wake up, start your morning with this statement: “God, I thank you that the Holy Spirit lives in me. Give me a fresh filling of Your power and love today!”
Pay attention today to one “nudge” from the Holy Spirit and then have the courage to obey! Make sure to write it down somewhere.
